The Welfare Society for Disability (WESOFOD), a non-governmental organization has on September 7, 2024 launched a major initiative in the Pujehun District aimed at increasing the enrollment of children with disabilities in primary schools.
The project, titled “Mi Chance for Learn” organized a symbolic handover of school and learning materials to more than 20 disabled children, providing crucial support for both their education and overall well-being.
The event was attended by several key representatives, including members of the Pujehun District Council, the Education Committee, social welfare officers, and school quality assurance officers among others.
The donation included essential items such as school uniforms, shoes, bags, and motorcycles, all designed to ensure that disabled children are fully equipped to attend school and stay engaged in their studies.
During the event, Mr. Abu of WESOFOD expressed his gratitude to TROCare and the government of Sierra Leone for their continued support of children with disabilities.
He emphasized the importance of children feeling confident and included by dressing neatly for school, as this sense of belonging plays a critical role in their motivation to remain in school.
WESOFOD’s program manager also expressed thanks and encouraged parents to use the donated items for their intended purpose to help their children thrive in school.
Stakeholders at the event emphasized the importance of proper care for the materials and urged parents to continuously support and encourage their children to pursue education for a better future.
