A 25-year-old woman, Musu Barnett, has been detained by the Bo police for the alleged murder of 1-year-3-month-old Stevena Satta Kposowa in the quiet neighborhood of Tihun, Sogbini Chiefdom, Bonthe District.

According to Detective Police Constable Jimmy-Kay J., the investigating officer, the tragic event unfolded on Sunday, October 8th, 2023, when the father of the deceased, Augustine Edward Kposowa, reported the incident. Augustine and his daughter had visited Barnett’s residence to collect a condolence book but were shocked to find Barnett allegedly processing drugs identified as ‘kush’ using scissors.

In a desperate attempt to locate his misplaced room key, Augustine momentarily left his daughter unattended. Upon his return, he discovered Barnett inserting her finger into his daughter’s mouth to test a substance, claiming she wanted to verify the quality of the drug.

Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene, finding the baby in a distressing condition. Stevena was swiftly taken to Mattru UBC Hospital but tragically died.

The police have taken Barnett into custody, and investigations are ongoing. Police officers are set to visit the crime scene in Tihun, and the toddler’s body has been placed in the Bo Government Hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The community is left in shock and mourning, awaiting further developments in this heartbreaking case. Local authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward, as they work diligently to uncover the truth behind this senseless tragedy.
