Magistrate Joseph Toby of the Kambia District Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 30-year-old Mary Conteh, of Elizabeth Street, Bassa Town, Waterloo, to 36 months in prison after finding her guilty of possessing harmful substances.
Conteh was arrested on Monday, 13 October 2025, by officers from the Operations Team of the Kambia Police Division at the Kambia District Central Lorry Park, where police recovered seven wrapped parcels containing illegal substances.
The ruling, delivered on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, forms part of intensified law-enforcement and judicial efforts to curb the possession and distribution of harmful substances nationwide. Authorities described the sentence as a deterrent to others engaged in similar activities.
Magistrate Toby received commendations from local stakeholders and community partners for his handling of the case. He is widely recognized across Kambia District as a “Peace Ambassador” for consistently issuing impartial decisions that promote peace and community stability.
Community leaders welcomed the verdict and called for continued collaboration between police, the judiciary, and residents to reduce drug-related crime and enhance public safety.
