police stationed at the Gelehun Checkpoint along the Pujehun-Liberia border highway arrested 60-year-old Jeneba Kallon for allegedly trafficking suspected cannabis sativa.

The arrest occurred during a routine vehicle inspection, where officers discovered 12 compressed parcels of dry leaves concealed among her belongings.

The suspect was immediately detained and later transferred to the Regional Police Headquarters in Bo.

The Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) has since taken over the case and is conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the source and intended recipients of the suspected drugs.

Authorities are also probing possible links to organized crime syndicates involved in cross-border drug trafficking.

Speaking on the incident, Assistant Inspector General of Police Brima Kanneh, the Regional Police Commander for the South, commended the vigilance of the Gelehun checkpoint officers.

“This arrest is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding Sierra Leone’s borders from drug trafficking and other transnational crimes,” Kanneh stated.

The Gelehun Checkpoint is a critical monitoring post due to its proximity to the Liberian border, an area often exploited by smugglers and criminal networks.

The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by Sierra Leone’s security forces to disrupt the movement of illicit drugs and bolster border security.

Investigations are still underway as TOCU intensifies its efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations in the region.
