A significant boost has been given to women-led peacebuilding efforts in Kono District with the recent equipping of the Women Focused Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Coalition. The initiative, funded by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund, comes under the project “Repositioning Women Focused CSOs for Sustainable Peace in Sierra Leone.”
The UN Women, World Vision, UNDP, and other stakeholders collaborated on this project, aiming to strengthen the capacity of local women-focused CSOs in their pursuit of sustainable peace and empower women to take on leadership roles.
On April 17th, 2024, the Kono District CSO Coalition received a critical package of office equipment. This included computers, printers, office furniture, and other essential resources to support their operational needs.
“This initiative is part of a larger strategy for localization and working together for peace,” explained Madam Christine Petiquoe, Chairperson of the Kono District CSO Coalition. “It emphasizes building strong partnerships within the community and ensuring local voices, particularly women’s voices, are central to peacebuilding efforts.”
Building a More Peaceful Future
The project’s long-term goal is to leave a lasting positive impact on the region. This will be achieved by promoting stability, encouraging active participation by women in peace processes, and fostering a collaborative approach among all stakeholders.
