Sheku Bangura, 28, made his first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on a charge of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.

Bangura is accused of stealing $8,700, equivalent to 250,540 Leones, from businessman Kabbie Sesay in Waterloo, Western Rural Area.

According to the prosecution, between April 10 and August 12, 2024, Sesay, who recognized the accused, received $8,500 at his residence in the presence of Bangura.

The next day, he noticed that a significant portion of the money was missing and questioned Bangura, who allegedly admitted to the theft and suggested contacting his father.

Sesay testified that Bangura offered to lead them to where the money was hidden but failed to produce it. Further investigation revealed an additional 40,000 Leones missing from Sesay’s home. The matter was reported to the police.

At the police station, Bangura allegedly instructed his girlfriend to return the stolen money, but she only brought 1,500 Leones.

Bangura, who was not legally represented, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Bangura denied bail and ordered his remand at the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case was adjourned to September 30, 2024.
