In a significant move to boost development in Samu Chiefdom, Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, Chairman of Renewable Energy and Food Security, is spearheading an ambitious electrification project that promises to illuminate the Kassirie Community in Kambia District.

Once completed, the project will provide electricity to over 4,000 households, marking a major milestone in advancing one of the chiefdom’s most economically important and populous areas.

The Leone Power Electrification Company is overseeing the project’s implementation, and progress is swift. The construction of the Power House is nearing completion, and the site for the solar panel installation has already been cleared, setting the stage for the provision of clean, sustainable energy to Kassirie.

This initiative will deliver 6.6 kilowatts per hour, ensuring reliable power to meet the community’s energy needs.

Residents can now register for house wiring at a cost of only 400 Leones for two bulbs, which covers all necessary materials. In addition, the decision to provide meters free of charge has been warmly received by the community, further easing the financial burden on households.

Driving the project on the ground is Councillor Lamin SB Kamara, also known as PAGAL, who serves as the Community Liaison Officer.

His tireless efforts in coordinating resource collection and ensuring the smooth progress of the project have earned widespread community support. Kamara’s leadership has been pivotal in mobilizing stakeholders and keeping the community engaged throughout the electrification process.

The official ground launching ceremony is anticipated before December, capping off a year of transformative progress for the community.

Residents are eager to celebrate this achievement, which is set to enhance both the economic prospects and living conditions in Kassirie.

This electrification initiative follows Hon. Dr. Yumkella’s previous success in bringing electricity to Kychom, his hometown, further solidifying his reputation as a champion of renewable energy and sustainable development in Sierra Leone.

His vision and leadership continue to inspire hope and progress, particularly in rural communities like Kassirie.

For the residents of Samu Chiefdom, this project represents more than just the arrival of electricity—it symbolizes a commitment to growth, empowerment, and a brighter future for the entire community.

Profound gratitude is being expressed toward Hon. Dr. Yumkella for his relentless dedication to improving the quality of life through sustainable energy solutions.
