Last year, the Sierra Leone’s government cut a $55 million deal with China to finance the construction of a new harbor at Black Johnson Beach. But residents and environmentalists strongly protested against the deal: They fear eviction and pollution in the area where fish breed.
The people living along the pristine beach also fear losing their jobs and land.
