Five hundred young graduates recently completed a rigorous 21-day training camp and formally joined the National Youth Service (NYS) Corps.

A ceremony in Freetown marked the occasion, celebrating the achievements of Batch 7 NYS members as they prepare to contribute to national development.

The training, conducted under the National Youth Service Act of 2016, included leadership development, military drills, and assessments designed to instill discipline, resilience, and teamwork. The program aimed to cultivate patriotism, leadership, and national unity among the youth.

Among the distinguished national leaders present at the closing ceremony were Mohamed Orman Bangura, Minister of Youth Affairs; Dr. Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education; Colonel Abubakar Keita, Commandant of the Peace Operations Training Academy; and Colonel Kwamie Francis Kanu, RSLAF Training Commander.

Paul Kamara, one of the graduates, expressed his enthusiasm for the values instilled during the camp. “This training has given me the tools and mindset to serve Sierra Leone with dedication, and I am eager to contribute to the country’s development,” he said.

The NYS Corps members will now be deployed for their twelve-month national service, working in areas such as health, education, infrastructure, and community development.

The National Youth Service Corps plays a vital role in developing young leaders, fostering national pride, and promoting socioeconomic growth. These graduates now embark on a transformative journey, representing the future of a developing and united Sierra Leone.
