The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Francis Ben Kaifala, has sparked public debate after suggesting that the government may need to consider reintroducing the death penalty for individuals involved in the importation and trade of kush, a deadly synthetic drug ravaging communities across Sierra Leone.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook account, Commissioner Kaifala described kush as a killer and urged collective action to protect the nation’s youth from its devastating effects.
“Kush kills… Let’s work together to keep our youth from being destroyed by it. CUT the supply… Death penalty for its importers and traders? Let’s bring it back?” he wrote.
His statement, framed as an open question, has stirred public discussion over the severity of the measures needed to tackle the escalating kush crisis, which has been linked to rising mental health issues, crime, and loss of young lives.
While Kaifala did not make a definitive call for the reinstatement of capital punishment, his post underscores growing frustration among citizens and public officials over the country’s struggle to curb drug trafficking and the widespread abuse of kush.

I support the idea, who ever will bring Kush into this country Sierra Leone let’s him or her undergo death penalty
I wholeheartedly support the execution of Kush dealers. The Kush trade has caused a menace in our country. The youths are being destroyed by it. Why can’t we destroy those that deal in it and rehabilitate our youths?
I 100% agreed Mr. Kaifala
I totally agree with you expecially those importing drugs in to our County. Also those at the Airport and Port Authorities.. Mr Kelfala I am also as disgruntled by this epidemic ravaging our Nation and the tarnishing its image. More significantly putting our future generations in stagnant situation without achieving their destiny. We must pray work together with God to intervene in the Name of Jesus.
That’s the straight route to stop this pandemic in our country. But hmmm den go gree because most of dem get hand insie dea
