The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has reaffirmed its commitment to act on the findings of the 2023 Auditor General’s Report, recently published by Audit Service Sierra Leone.
The Commission, in a statement issued on Thursday, December 19, 2024, vowed to prioritize investigations into the report’s findings and ensure accountability for state resources.
Addressing the public, ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala assured citizens of the Commission’s resolve to address the major issues highlighted in the report. “Let me assure the public of the Commission’s firm commitment to ensuring that all the major issues highlighted in the Report are adequately looked into due to the enormous importance we attach to the Auditor General’s Report,” Kaifala stated.
The ACC announced its immediate commencement of an in-depth examination of the report and pledged to provide regular updates through Serialized Media Releases. These updates will include details of investigations, prosecutions, convictions, recovery of funds, implementation of prevention measures, and where applicable, exoneration of individuals or institutions.
In its statement, the ACC emphasized its understanding of Parliament’s constitutional role concerning the Auditor General’s Report and committed to collaborating with the legislative body to hold public institutions accountable for state resources.
The ACC also highlighted its partnership with Audit Service Sierra Leone to ensure that both agencies fulfill their mandates effectively, addressing all issues of concern with urgency and impartiality.
Reassuring the public of its determination, the Commission stated, “We remain unwavering in our resolve to protect all State Resources and will act without fear or favor to hold individuals and institutions accountable.”
The Auditor General’s Report has consistently served as a critical tool for ensuring fiscal accountability in Sierra Leone, and the ACC’s commitment to taking swift and decisive action reflects the importance of public trust in governance.
