Brigadier General Sheikh Sulaiman Massaquoi, the outgoing Acting Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS), delivered a farewell address on Monday, September 9, 2024, during a muster parade in Freetown.
He thanked officers for their support during his tenure and announced the handover of leadership back to Brigadier General Sahr D.T. Ngaujah, whom he succeeded a year ago.
Reflecting on his service, Brig. Gen. Massaquoi expressed confidence in the work he accomplished, stating, “I don’t think I have disappointed the trust reposed in me.”
He acknowledged the government’s decision to continue appointing military personnel to oversee the SLCS, urging officers to support this move for the sake of national progress.
He also addressed recent promotions within the service, encouraging newly promoted officers to be exemplary and advising those not yet promoted to remain steadfast. Massaquoi assured officers that their outstanding supply of rice was being processed.
Brig. Gen. Ngaujah, returning from a year-long study in Nigeria, praised his colleague for his leadership and urged officers to steer clear of politics and focus on advancing the SLCS. He pledged to build on the progress made and raise the institution to new heights.
The ceremony marked the transition of leadership, with both generals emphasizing cooperation and dedication to the continued growth of the SLCS.
