Prominent APC figure and legal practitioner, Ady Macauley, has underscored the critical role of lawyers in upholding democracy and the rule of law following his participation in the 1st Annual General Meeting of the Lawyer’s Society.
The event, themed “The Role of Lawyers in a Democratic Society,” brought together legal professionals and governance experts to discuss the responsibilities of lawyers in safeguarding democratic principles. Keynote speakers included Faith M.A. Odhiambo, President of the Kenya Law Society; Marcella Samba Sesay, a renowned good governance practitioner; and Hassan Nassrallah, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).
Reflecting on the discussions, Macauley highlighted the speakers’ emphasis on the vital function of lawyers as the “guardians of democracy and the rule of law.” He noted that the conference called on legal professionals to act with conviction and courage in their pursuit of justice and good governance.
The AGM served as a platform to reinforce the legal fraternity’s commitment to democracy, transparency, and accountability, particularly in strengthening Sierra Leone’s justice system.
The discussions underscored the importance of lawyers in ensuring fair legal processes, advocating for human rights, and holding institutions accountable.
Macauley’s participation in the forum aligns with his longstanding advocacy for legal integrity and governance reforms. The engagement of legal minds in such dialogues signals a growing emphasis on the legal profession’s duty in shaping a democratic society.
