The African Peace Magazine has featured former president Ernest Bai Koroma in their special October edition in recognition of his contribution to peace and democracy.

The African Peace Magazine focuses on bringing the best of Africa to a global audience, telling African stories from an African perspective. It also aimed at promoting the values of Peace and Unity in Africa.

“In this edition, we celebrate an outstanding African, who has dedicated his life to promoting peace in Africa. His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is a rare gem, an asset to the continent. Today the 2nd of October also makes his birthday. We at African Peace Magazine wish his Excellency God’s blessing and protection.

His legacy for the people of Sierra Leone covers the consolidation of peace, and a massive rebuilding of roads, pipe-borne water, and energy infrastructure, which were severely destroyed during the 11 years of civil war. President Koroma demonstrated strong and unifying leadership in rebuilding the country. Improving economic stability, fighting corruption, and strengthening democratic good governance, attracted international attention and commendation.

On the international stage, he chaired the African Union Committee of Ten for the Reform of The United Nations which advocates for Africa to have 2 permanent seats on the UN Security Council and for more African representation at the United Nations. He also chaired the AU Peace Council for two consecutive years and participated in brokering peace in Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, and the Gambia.

In April 2018, President Koroma conducted peaceful democratic multi-tier elections and though there were some contestations of the results, once declared as winners of the polls, he gracefully handed over power to the opposition which once again showcased his dedication toward peace and democracy.

Since leaving Office in 2018, H.E has led three African Union (AU) Elections Observation Missions to Namibia, and Zambia, and we especially commend his role in the recently concluded 2022 Kenyan Elections.

Under the aegis of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), former President Koroma has led Elections Observation Missions to Togo, Benin, and the Gambia. And to Somaliland, under the auspices of the Brenthurst Foundation.

His selfless service to humanity and his outstanding contributions to political leadership are inspiring to millions across Africa. We, therefore, thank God for his life and wish him many more years of good health, peace, and happiness.

Please join us in this Special Edition dedicated to President Ernest Koroma, to wish him a very Happy Birthday. Office of Ernest Bai Koroma, Former President of Sierra Leone 2007-2018”.
