Africell Sierra Leone on Tuesday welcomed home Sierra Leonean-born international music producer Omar Elkan Agyei, marking a proud homecoming for one of the country’s fast-rising creative talents.

The reception, held at the company’s headquarters in Wilberforce, celebrated Elkan’s achievements on the global stage and reaffirmed Africell’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leonean creatives.

Elkan, known for his distinct fusion of African percussion, contemporary rhythms, and digital sound engineering, has earned increasing international recognition for his innovative production style. Born to Sierra Leonean parents, he began experimenting with drums and digital equipment at a young age an early passion that developed into the signature sound now admired by listeners and industry professionals worldwide.

Africell Media Manager Abdul Karim Sesay said the company was honoured to host Elkan, describing him as an exceptional young talent whose journey reflects discipline, innovation, and cultural pride. Sesay noted that Africell has long invested in nurturing young creatives, adding that the company recognised Elkan’s potential early on and has continued to follow his progress with admiration. He expressed confidence that the producer’s return home would open doors for deeper collaboration.

Africell CEO Shadi Al Gerjawi also offered a warm welcome and recalled a personal family moment with the young producer. He recounted how Elkan had once gifted his children their first drum set an act that sparked their interest in music. Though the early sounds “resembled noise,” he joked, those moments eventually became the foundation for genuine creative expression.

Al Gerjawi emphasised that inspiration often comes from recognising potential in others and giving them the confidence to pursue it. He praised Elkan’s rise and said his success would motivate countless Sierra Leoneans who may never meet him but would believe in themselves because of his example.

He further highlighted the importance of developing the broader creative industry, noting that “even small creative vibrations can trigger meaningful change.” Referencing a recent moment at the Housemates Salone Season 4 eviction show where a local track electrified the crowd, he expressed hope that Elkan would help elevate Sierra Leonean music on the global stage.

He concluded by entrusting the producer with “the responsibility and honour of carrying Sierra Leone’s sound forward.”

Elkan’s mother, Kippy Debs Africell Customer Relations Director and Lead of the Africell Impact Foundation spoke with both pride and professional insight. She reflected on her son’s journey, recalling the long nights he spent perfecting sounds in the studio.

She said her pride stems not only from his success but from the values and discipline that shaped him. Debs reaffirmed the Africell Impact Foundation’s commitment to investing in media, talent development, and the creative arts. She noted that people grow not simply because of their environment but because of the investments made in them and the effort they commit to their craft. Elkan, she said, stands as proof that creativity can flourish in Sierra Leone.

In his remarks, Elkan said he was delighted to return to the country that has always been central to his identity and artistic inspiration. He described Sierra Leone as a place “where even chaos becomes melody,” noting that its rhythm, people, and energy continue to influence his sound. He emphasized the importance of community and said he looked forward to carrying Sierra Leone’s spirit into global music spaces.

Elkan also announced the release of his new EP, Baby Bundle, scheduled for Friday, 12 December 2025. The project, he said, captures his artistic evolution over seven years. He highlighted a standout track, “Turn the Continent Up,” which he believes will make a strong impact internationally. He added that the EP is a celebration of his roots.

Africell later confirmed that Elkan will perform his new music at the Housemates Salone Season 4 Grand Finale on 21 December 2025.

The event underscored Africell’s continued commitment to promoting creativity, empowering young talent, and investing in Sierra Leone’s cultural future solidifying its position as a leader not only in telecommunications but also in national development.
