Sierra Leone’s new national carrier, Air Sierra Leone has opened flight bookings on its website with passengers now able to book direct flights between Freetown’s Lungi International Airport (FNA) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW) for as low as $150.50 (USD).

The airline had initially planned to launch its services on December 2nd, at Gatwick Airport offering a direct connection between London and Freetown but this was postponed due to technical difficulties.

Checks by Sierraloaded shows the airline has now opened flight bookings on its website, www.flysierraleone.com with Freetown (FNA) and London Gatwick (LGW) listed as available. destinations.

Air Sierra Leone offers a tiered fare structure, catering to various budgets. ECO STANDARD provides a comfortable and affordable option starting at $150.5 (USD) while ECO PLUS and ECO PREMIUM are available at $545.0 (USD) and $705.0 (USD) respectively.

The airline itself is a product of a recent partnership between the Sierra Leone government and Lagos-based Xejet Aviation Limited.

Under the agreement, Xejet will operate regional and international flights from Freetown while establishing a strong national carrier for the country.

Air Sierra Leone boasts a fleet of three aircraft: a 50-seat Embraer and two Boeing 737s with capacities of 189 and 149 passengers.

There were initial safety concerns regarding one of the planned Embraer 145 aircraft, which reportedly experienced a runway skidding incident in Lagos, Nigeria.

However, Air Sierra Leone has addressed these concerns, emphasizing that the aircraft has undergone and passed all necessary regulatory inspections in Sierra Leone.

“On 20th November 2024, the 50-seater aircraft has safely arrived at Freetown International Airport. It will now undergo additional regulatory checks by the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) to ensure compliance and operational readiness.

“Once cleared, the Embraer 145 will officially launch its maiden regional flights, covering the Freetown-Abuja-Accra route as part of the first phase of Air Sierra Leone’s business plan.” a statement by the company said.
