During a sensitisation programme by Amnesty International in Kabala, environmental activists in the district condemned the illegal cutting of trees prevalent in the district.

An environmentalist, Madam Amiratu Marah complained that timber logging has caused climate change in the district and implored the government to take action immediately to curb the menace.

Also speaking at the event, Yusuf Banjura another environmental activist said Kabala may face a worse case of deforestation if actions are not taken on the activities of trees smugglers, adding that the government has left a vacant post that unaided citizens now exploit for personal gains.

Deforestation in Kabala according to the activist will worsen if the government doesn’t take action urgently and consistently.

However, a member of Parliament present at the meeting, Hon Lahai Marah promise to take up the matter and carry out necessary action to curb the illegal activities in the constituency.
