Mayor Aki-Sawyer shared her experience of her visit to New Haven, Connecticut, on her social media platforms.”
She shared her excitement saying “Today, I was pleased to accept an invitation from the New Haven Sister Cities Organisation to visit New Haven City Hall and meet with Mayor Elicker, members of the organization and the leadership of the New Haven Amistad Committee.”
She continued in explaining the highlights of the visit sighting statute of Sierra Leonean legend, Sengbeh Pieh.
“Highlights of today’s visit included seeing the statute of Sengbe Pieh and reflecting on the legacy of resilience and determination that he and the Amistad story represents,” she said.
Moving on her post, she made mention of a signing agreement done in 1996 of what she referred to as Sister City Affiliation Agreement between Freetown and New Haven.
“Another significant highlight was being given a photograph of Mdme Florence Ellsworth when she signed the Sister City Affiliation Agreement between Freetown and New Haven on 29th September 1996,” she mentioned.
She said, “Mdme Dillsworth was my Principal at St. Joseph’s Secondary School so it was special to be sitting in the same City Hall today as Mayor-Elect of Freetown. The Freetown – New Haven Sister Cities relationship was 25 years old in 2021 and Chair Althea Norcott used this opportunity to thank me for sending them a congratulatory video message in September 2021 that was used for their celebrations.”
The newly elected Mayor is still yet to secure her sit as her party continues to boycott governance.
