Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has received a high-level delegation in connection with the Susan’s Bay Care Block Project, a major initiative of the Freetown City Council (FCC) aimed at supporting vulnerable families and improving community welfare in the Susan’s Bay community.

The visit highlighted the importance of the Care Block project, which is being implemented by the FCC with support from international development partners.

The facility is designed to provide critical social services, including childcare support, adult education opportunities, and assistance for survivors of gender-based violence.

Speaking during the engagement, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the significance of the project in addressing the social and economic challenges faced by residents, particularly women and children in vulnerable communities.

She noted that the Care Block represents the Council’s continued commitment to improving the quality of life for underserved populations in Freetown through inclusive and people-centered development initiatives.

According to the Freetown City Council, the Susan’s Bay Care Block is expected to serve as a safe and supportive space where families can access essential services aimed at empowerment, protection, and education.

The project also seeks to strengthen community resilience and create opportunities for long-term social development.

Members of the visiting delegation commended the FCC for its efforts in advancing community-based development projects and recognized the importance of partnerships in delivering sustainable social services.

The delegation further acknowledged the role of the Care Block in promoting dignity, safety, and empowerment for vulnerable groups within the Susan’s Bay area.

The Susan’s Bay Care Block Project forms part of broader efforts by the Freetown City Council to expand access to social support services and improve living conditions across communities in the capital.
