Mayor Aki-Sawyerr Attends Inauguration of Namibia’s First Female President

“Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, on Saturday, 22nd March 2025, witnessed the inauguration ceremony of H.E. Dr. Cde. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Namibia’s first female president

As stated on her social media page, she said, ‘History was made, and I am so grateful that I was able to witness it.’

‘’The inauguration of H. E. Dr. Cde. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Namibia’s first female President was incredibly poignant, moving, and inspirational’’.

She also added that the Guest of Honor was Tanzania’s President H. E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the only other female leader currently leading an African country.

As an Amujae Leader, I was honored to accompany to the inauguration ceremony of Africa’s first elected female President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate H. E. Mdme Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former President of Liberia and the founder of and inspiration behind the Amujae Leadership program. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, she stated.

H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah stated yesterday “It is not good to underplay the role that one segment of the population can play in the social and economic development of a nation. I believe that my being elected as President will inspire many women and girls”.
