One of Sierra Leone’s leading mobile service providers, Orange Sierra Leone Mobile Network and Orange Foundation, in collaboration with the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, presented digital school kits to the headteacher of Kroo Bay Municipal Primary School.
The digital school kits include a solar panel, android tablets, a computer, a power extension, a Bluetooth speaker, and a projector, which will enhance the digital learning skills of the pupils. This generous donation from Orange Sierra Leone underscores the critical importance of collectively driving development.
In her statement during the handing over ceremony, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed her appreciation to Orange Sierra Leone for their support to school going pupils.
She also thanked them for partnering with the Frertown City Council (FCC) in promoting human capital development which is part of FCC’s development agenda.
She was confident that the digital tools will be utilized effectively for their intended purpose and FCC will leverage its digital literacy program framework to guide how these resources are used.
In another development, aligned with FCC’s commitment to supporting women and youth, including market women, the mayor this week, visited the Hegan Street Market, and engaged in discussions with the market women and other stakeholders. “Together, we are exploring ways to enhance their market spaces, with a particular focus on ensuring the area remains safe and does not become a haven for unwanted activities.”
Similarly, she also visited Bottom Mango PWD alongside Councilors Agnes Marrah, Chairperson for Municipal Trade at FCC, and Ibrahim Conteh. During the visit, she reaffirmed FCC’s commitment to constructing an extension, installing concrete market tables, building a lock-up store, and improving the toilet facilities. Our market women work tirelessly to support their families and educate their children, and FCC is proud to support initiatives that enhance their environments.
Earlier this week, mayor Aki-Sawyer also had the privilege of updating the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Alhaji Fanday Turay, on the progress FCC is making in engaging a growing network of potential funders for the Freetown Cable Car Project. Recognizing the valuable support the project has already received from the Government through the Honorable Vice President and the Minister; she also used the opportunity to request that the project be formally recognized as a development priority by the central government. This will demonstrate to investors that the project benefits from support across multiple levels of government.
