In a gesture of diplomatic goodwill, His Excellency Ambassador Bumidien Gennad from the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria made a cordial visit on Wednesday, 27th December 2023, to Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Russia, H.E. Mohamed Yongawo.

Ambassador Bumidien swiftly conveyed warm regards from His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, along with the heartfelt greetings from the Algerian Government and People to His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and the citizens of Sierra Leone.

During their meeting, Ambassador Bumidien expressed his delight at visiting his esteemed colleague and emphasized the desire for sustained harmonious relations between Algeria and Sierra Leone, which have flourished over many decades.

The timing of this friendly encounter is significant as Sierra Leone and Algeria are poised to represent Africa at the UN Security Council in the Non-permanent membership category. Both diplomats reiterated their commitment to fortify collaboration on bilateral and multilateral fronts. They agreed to collaborate closely on matters concerning African-Russian relations, especially those that align with the interests of their respective nations.

Expressing gratitude for the visit, Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo expressed his honor for the esteemed interaction, particularly during the bustling end-of-year festive period, a time usually filled with numerous diplomatic engagements.

Ambassador Yongawo took the opportunity to brief his counterpart on President Bio’s five priority areas, expressing hope for Algeria’s support in realizing these crucial national objectives.
