Presidential Spokesperson Hon. Alpha Kanu has defended the recent appointment of four members of the Antar family as presidential envoys, describing them as individuals of integrity with “unblemished records.”

Kanu’s remarks come in response to criticism from Minkailu Koroma, a member of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Communications Team, who alleged that the appointments serve private rather than national interests. Koroma argued that granting diplomatic status to members of a single family could allow them to use their positions to advance business ventures.

“The Antars have shown a clean slate in the past. They have zero tolerance for drugs and crime. We vouch that they will not mess up”, he stated.

In his statement, Kanu praised the Antars’ contributions to Sierra Leone’s business and social landscape, asserting that their track record demonstrates trustworthiness and capability. He maintained that the appointments were made on merit and in line with the President’s constitutional authority to select individuals who can represent the country effectively abroad.

The exchange highlights ongoing debates about transparency, meritocracy, and potential favoritism in government appointments.
