A twelve-person jury has delivered a guilty verdict against Amadu Koita Makalo and eleven others accused of plotting to overthrow the Sierra Leone government on November 26, 2023.

The group, including former police and correctional officers, faced charges of treason, misprision of treason, harboring, aiding, and abetting the enemy. The trial was presided over by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Magistrate Court No. 2 of Freetown.

The jury found all twelve defendants guilty on all counts except for two, which were specific to one defendant, Bai Mamoud Bangura, who remains on bail.

The court is currently hearing pleas for mercy.
