In the wake of the June 24th multi-tier elections in Sierra Leone, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) working group committee convened a significant discussion to assess the outcomes of the elections and deliberate on various human rights initiatives.

Supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the HRCSL engaged in proactive talks to prioritize activities for the upcoming 75th anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights.

During the meeting, the HRCSL and the attending stakeholders discussed ways to ensure active participation and involvement in the momentous 75th-anniversary celebration of the universal declaration of human rights.

The UNDP’s support was instrumental in fostering a meaningful exchange of ideas on this critical issue.

Moreover, the HRCSL collaborated with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Restless Development to tackle another pressing matter – the advocacy for a national strategy aimed at reducing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Sierra Leone. As part of this effort, the stakeholders emphasized the importance of raising the minimum age of consent to 18 years, seeking to safeguard the rights and well-being of young women in the country.
