U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan D. Hunt, visited Njala University’s Bo Campus on October 29, 2024, to explore potential collaborations aimed at strengthening higher education in Sierra Leone.
During the visit, Ambassador Hunt highlighted the importance of partnerships, particularly in advancing Njala University’s veterinary medicine program. “We are committed to strengthening our partnership to support higher education in Sierra Leone,” he said, underscoring the U.S. Embassy’s role in fostering academic development.
Ambassador Hunt also praised the long-standing relationship between Njala University and the U.S., noting that the institution has benefited from numerous Fulbright scholarships. He specifically commended the work of Dr. Joshua Liu McDermott, a Fulbright Scholar, for his significant contributions to the university.
Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, outlined plans for new campuses, a medical school, and a veterinary school. These initiatives are aimed at addressing critical health and education needs in the country.
Ambassador Hunt encouraged Njala University to explore further opportunities, including USAID grants and partnerships with U.S. universities. Both parties expressed optimism about future collaborations to expand educational opportunities in Sierra Leone.
