Sierra Leone’s Ambassador and PR to the UN, Michael Imran Kanu, emphasized that the Sierra Leone delegation supported the draft, stressing the crucial need for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. He highlighted that the council is mandated to act promptly and effectively in such situations.
Ambassador Imran made this statement after the UN Security Council met again in emergency session in New York on Gaza Tuesday, where the United States vetoed a resolution put forward on behalf of Arab States by Algeria demanding “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire that must be respected by all parties”.
According to the report, US uses veto power to quash Algeria’s draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and presents rival text that would condemn Hamas but also support a temporary ceasefire.
