Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, All People’s Congress (APC) has today, Wednesday 7 December 2022 inaugurated The Interim Independent Elections Management Committee (TIIEMC) ahead of their lower level elections.
The 25-man Committee is tasked with the responsibility of conducting the lower level elections of the Party.
In the next 50 days, the 21-Men Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC) of the APC is expected to have finished the party’s internal lower-level selections and National Delegates Convention (NDC) to elect new national executive officers and the party’s presidential candidate for 2023 by the end of this period.
It could be recalled that 24 January 2023 was the deadline set by the Chairman of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) for the party to complete all internal lower-level elections.
According to Alfred Peter Conteh, Chairman of the APC-ITGC, the party is presently on pace to achieve all deadlines, norms, and criteria set by the electoral stakeholder for the APC to be eligible to run in next year’s elections.
In a recent media engagement, he disclosed that the PPRC has approved the ITGC’s creation of a 25-Man Transitional Independent Interim Elections Management Committee (TIIEMC) to oversee the internal elections.
Conteh further assured the media that all internal elections would be finished by January 19, 2023, adding that the party would join the NDC immediately following the completion of these lower-level elections.
In order to comply with the court’s ruling and establish a new, legitimate membership record for the party, he also disclosed to the press that the party had started a new membership registration drive across the nation.
