Sierra Leone’s Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, has raised sharp concerns over the government’s 2024 budgetary allocations, criticizing what he described as a disproportionate emphasis on executive spending at the expense of vital public service sectors.

Kamara highlighted that the Office of the President received 291 million NLe, a figure that exceeds the combined allocations for agriculture, basic education, and health. According to his breakdown, agriculture was allocated 40 million NLe, basic education 79 million NLe, and health 172 million NLe.
Budget Imbalance Sparks Scrutiny

The Opposition Chief Whip argued that the disparity reflects a policy stance that prioritizes executive funding over critical sectors that underpin Sierra Leone’s long-term development.

His remarks have reignited debate on whether the 2024 budget adequately supports the country’s stated national priorities, including the Human Capital Development initiative and the Feed Salone agenda.

The funding gap has drawn widespread public attention, particularly since agriculture, education, and health are officially designated as central pillars of the government’s development framework.
