All People’s Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary Sidi Yayah Tunis has said the party has a “70% chance of winning the elections,” during an interview on Liberty Online TV.

Speaking during the interview, Tunis also claimed that the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) “has no strong hold anywhere in Sierra Leone.” He alleged that the SLPP does not trust the electoral process and “never believes in fair elections,” further claiming that the party “always finds ways to rig elections” in order to remain in power.

He described the APC as a social democratic party that “caters for the needs of the people of Sierra Leone,” adding that the majority of citizens came together to form the party due to disagreements with SLPP governance.

Providing historical context, Tunis said the SLPP has spent more years in government than the APC and noted that it played a key role in the country’s pre-independence leadership, stating that “the SLPP took us to independence.” However, he added that disagreements over the independence arrangements contributed to the formation of the APC, as “people were not happy.”

Tunis also credited several national infrastructure projects to APC administrations, particularly under former President Siaka Stevens. He cited the Aberdeen Bridge, the Bank of Sierra Leone, the Commercial Bank, the medical school, and the law school, adding that “even the roads in this country are APC infrastructure.”

He further alleged that SLPP administrations often announce projects and fail to complete them, claiming that funds are mismanaged. He referenced the Bumbuna Hydroelectric Project, stating that plans included “$500 million and 11,000 jobs,” and also mentioned a rice project which he said was not implemented.

The SLPP has not responded to the claims at the time of publication.
