The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved over $72 million in financing for the long-awaited Kambia-Tonko Limba-Tomparay Road Construction Project, a key infrastructure development in Sierra Leone.

The decision, made by the Board of Executive Directors on Monday, October 14, 2024, marks a major step forward in improving transportation in the northern regions of the country.

The project is set to enhance connectivity across the Kambia and Bombali districts, regions that have long struggled with inadequate road infrastructure. The new road will provide better access for farmers, facilitate regional trade, and drive socio-economic growth in these areas.

For years, residents of Tonko Limba have faced significant challenges due to the deteriorating state of the road, especially during the rainy season. The poor condition has hindered local transportation and impacted economic activities. Previous government promises to rehabilitate the road had gone unfulfilled, leaving the community with limited access to essential services.

The new funding is seen as a beacon of hope for the region, with the project expected to create jobs, improve access to health and education services, and stimulate local economic development.

The IsDB’s investment underscores its continued commitment to supporting infrastructure development in Sierra Leone, which is vital for fostering sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for rural communities.
