The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) in a press release says it has received five different letters from the ITGC of the APC.

The release adds that, upon receipt of these correspondences, the Commission immediately summoned the Chairman of the Transitional Interim Independent Elections Management Committee (TIIEMC), the body charged with the responsibility of conducting the lower-level elections of the Party, by Paragraph 90(15) of the Judgment of the Hon. Adrian Fisher J, to a meeting.

The purpose of the meeting according to PPRC was to enquire from him if his committee has been constituted and if he is aware of the dates and timetable set by the Chairman of the ITGC, for the conduct of the aforesaid membership registration and elections.

The TIIEMC Chairman responding to those questions stated thus: that both factions in the ITGC, have submitted two conflicting lists of twenty four nominees each to him, making a total of forty eight nominees; that he has appealed to both sides, to agree on one unified list of twenty four nominees, to no avail and that as a result, his Committee is still not constituted and that he is not privy to the dates and timetable fixed by the Chairman of the ITGC for the conduct of the lower level elations, his committee (TIIEMC)) is tasked to conduct, until they saw them on social media platforms.

In the Press Release the PPRC stated that following this development, it wishes the general public to know that by paragraph 90(15) of the judgment of His Lordship Adrian Fisher, it is the TIIEMC that has the sole responsibility to determine the date and timetable for those elections; that unto the date herein, the ITGC has not constituted the TIIEMC, as both sides of divide have submitted lists to the Chairman of the TIIEMC that are completely exclusive of each other, that the Chairman of the TIIEMC, is not privy to the dates and timetable put out by a faction of ITGC, until he saw them on social media and that the commission and the ITGC have not agreed on the date and venue for the membership registration, as the meeting called for that purpose was aborted by the Chairman of the ITGC’s departure.

The release noted that consequently, any purported registration of party members tha is not in compliance with the first direction of the PPRC Ruling of the 3rd October 2022 is a nullity.

However, the APC in a press release to encourage its members and explain the ‘confused’ state of the party finds itself, noted that:

“In view of the foregoing, the ITGC hereby wishes to inform Party members and the public that the Committee, under the supervision of PPRC, shall commence the verification of party members and registration of new members in due course.

It added that “the Party’s general membership is hereby assured that the party shall conduct its lower-level elections and National Delegates Conference waiting the stipulated timeframe and shall RESIST any attempt to derail or prevent this from happening.”

As all of this is happening, the High Court presided by Justice Adrian Fischer has slammed an inunction on the APC ITGC Chairman and Secretary General not to involve themselves in any of the above issues and ordered that they be arrested by police if they attempt to do so as that would be considered contempt of court.
