An investigation has been launched into allegations that security personnel employed by the brother of Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, brutally assaulted one Abass Mustapha Koroma who residents within the community claimed to be mentally deranged in Funkia Village.

The incident, which took place on Sunday, September 15, 2024, involves Abass Mustapha Koroma, a resident of the community.

Koroma, told Sierra loaded that he was wrongfully detained and beaten by Francis, a military officer, and another private security guard stationed at the residence of the Vice President’s brother.

Koroma, who was spotted wandering within the compound’s perimeter, said he was falsely accused of theft by Francis, which led to the violent attack. Koroma alleges that both security personnel mercilessly beat him, forcing him to flee when he saw an opportunity.

Upon escaping, Koroma returned to his family in a battered state. His cousin, Yusuf Sillah, was shocked to find him severely injured. With the help of neighbors, Sillah sought clarification from the accused security personnel.

After detecting discrepancies in their accounts, Sillah decided to report the matter to the Funkia Police Station the following day.

The case was officially lodged in by Officer Mohamed Conteh attached at the Funkia police station on Monday, September 16, 2024. An invitation was issued for Francis to appear for questioning on Wednesday, September 18 but suddenly according to findings his employer has asked him to go on leave.

However, both Francis and the security guard failed to show up, with current guards claiming they were on leave. Efforts to reach them have so far been unsuccessful.

Funkia Police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. Officer Conteh noted that further information could not be disclosed without approval from higher authorities.

Meanwhile, Koroma continues to suffer from the severe injuries sustained during the assault. His family, already burdened by financial strain, is struggling to cover the mounting medical expenses.

Koroma’s younger brother, Peter Kargbo, expressed frustration at seeing his brother’s condition, emphasizing that although Koroma has mental health challenges, he is not known for causing trouble or stealing.

The family is now calling for justice and accountability, hoping that the police investigation will lead to appropriate legal action against those responsible for the attack.
