In a recent budget hearing at the Ministry of Finance, the Audit Service Sierra Leone presented a request for Le 17.15 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.

This funding is aimed at supporting the administration and covering all operational expenses for the upcoming year.

The Audit Service Sierra Leone emphasized its commitment to maintaining independence and ensuring that public funds are used efficiently.

According to their mission statement, achieving these goals will require strong partnerships with stakeholders to foster a motivated workforce and proactive service delivery.

During the hearing, the Audit Service highlighted the completion of a new building that will house its staff and provide a conducive working environment.

The organization has made significant strides in staff retention and training, aligning with the country’s staff retention policy.

It also received positive feedback from Parliament regarding its activities. Additionally, the Audit Service has enhanced its capabilities through the establishment of the “IS Audit Unit,” which facilitates access to essential audit information via a digitalized system.

In comparison, the 2023 budget was set at Le 12.5 billion, but only Le 8.57 billion was disbursed, leading to setbacks in some of their activities.

To address these issues and support their growing needs, the Audit Service is now proposing an increase to Le 17.15 billion for 2025.

This request is pending approval from the Ministry of Finance as part of the broader national budget discussions for the upcoming year.
