The Bank of Sierra Leone has announced that it has minted and released a sufficient quantity of coins into circulation to meet the needs of the economy.

In a recent press release, the Bank stated that the denominations currently available include 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, and 50 cents coins.

To facilitate access to these coins, the public is encouraged to visit their commercial banks, community banks, and other Microfinance Institutions, where they can obtain coins directly over the counter.

For those seeking direct exchanges, the Bank of Sierra Leone has also made provisions for the public to exchange banknotes for coins at its Banking Hall located on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown or at its branch in Kenema.

These exchanges will take place every Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., offering a convenient option for members of the public to obtain coins.

The Bank emphasizes the importance of the coins in facilitating smooth transactions within the economy, encouraging individuals and businesses to incorporate them into their daily financial dealings.

This move is part of the Bank’s broader strategy to ensure the availability of all denominations of currency, promoting ease of trade and improving cash flow in the Sierra Leonean economy.
