The leadership of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), led by its President, Mrs. Tuma Adama Gento-Kamara, has held a high-level meeting with the Honourable Chief Justice, His Lordship Komba Kamanda, to strengthen collaboration between the Bar and the Bench and enhance ethical standards within the legal profession.
Welcoming the SLBA delegation at his Chambers on Siaka Stevens Street, Chief Justice Kamanda underscored the importance of maintaining integrity within the Judiciary and emphasized that a strong and ethical legal profession is essential to public trust in the justice system.
He commended the SLBA for its participation in the recent Assize Service, which marked the official opening of the 2025/2026 Judicial Year, describing the turnout as impressive.
However, the Chief Justice expressed concern over reports of inappropriate courtroom attire among some legal practitioners. He noted complaints from Judges about lawyers appearing in court wearing miniskirts, brown shoes, and slippers — a clear violation of the Legal Practitioners’ Code of Conduct.
He directed that Judges should not hear any lawyer who appears improperly dressed and urged the SLBA to remind members of their duty to uphold professional standards.
In her response, Mrs. Gento-Kamara thanked the Chief Justice for his continued engagement with the Bar and assured him of the SLBA’s full support in promoting ethics and professionalism within the legal community.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and cooperation in advancing the rule of law and strengthening confidence in Sierra Leone’s justice system.
