Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Mohammed Barrie, has called on leaders and members of the Fullah community to remain united in the interest of national cohesion, stressing that political differences should not undermine collective solidarity.

Ambassador Barrie made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Fullah Tribal Head, Alhaji Mohamed Sajor Jalloh, and his council in the Western Area on Saturday. He said unity within ethnic groups contributes directly to national stability, noting that diversity of opinion should coexist with mutual respect and shared national purpose.

The Ambassador said he used part of his official working visit to Freetown to pay respect to the Fullah chieftaincy, describing the visit as a gesture of appreciation for the community’s contributions to Sierra Leone’s development. He commended President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, and the government for the opportunity to serve the country abroad. Quoting a Hadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he emphasised unity, tolerance, and respect for leadership.

During the visit, Ambassador Barrie presented a traditional token to the community and announced the donation of one Hajj seat to the Fullah community for the 2026/1447 Hajj pilgrimage, funded personally.

Responding, the Fullah Tribal Head, Alhaji Med-Saj Jalloh, welcomed the Ambassador’s message, describing unity as essential both for the Fullah people and for Sierra Leone. Reflecting on the community’s history and the formation of the Fullah Progressive Union (FPU) in the 1970s, he said Fullahs have made significant contributions to the country’s socio-economic development, including through entrepreneurship and tax compliance.

He urged continued integration with other ethnic groups through intermarriage and social interaction to strengthen national cohesion, and encouraged Fullah participation in the forthcoming national census. Alhaji Med-Saj also expressed gratitude for the donation of the Hajj seat.

Dr. Chernor Mamadu Jalloh, a lecturer at the University of Sierra Leone, called on the Fullah community to expand its contribution to national development, particularly through investment in tertiary education institutions to complement government efforts.

Prayers were offered for Ambassador Barrie by members of the Fullah chieftaincy council, including Chief Alhaji Umaru Monoma Bah, Alhaji Sajor Bah, Alhaji Kulu Jalloh, and Alhaji M.A. Jalloh, all of whom echoed messages of unity and solidarity.

The visit underscored the role of ethnic harmony in national development and the continuing contribution of the Fullah community to Sierra Leone’s progress.
