December 7th, 2023, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has taken a crucial step in maintaining the continuity of the judiciary by appointing Hon. Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke as the acting Chief Justice. The announcement comes as the incumbent Chief Justice takes a leave of absence, prompting the need for a temporary successor.

In the official Letter of Appointment issued by President Bio, he expressed, “I write to inform you that in the absence of the Hon. Chief Justice (who has proceeded on leave), it has pleased His Excellency the President to appoint you as Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone, in an acting capacity.” This move ensures that the judiciary remains fully functional and upholds its vital role in the administration of justice.
