President Julius Maada Bio has appointed Andrew Keili as the new chairman of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

The announcement comes a few months after the boards of EDSA and the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) were dissolved.

In May, President Bio dissolved the boards of EDSA and EGTC, following his decision to assume direct control of the Ministry of Energy. The recent appointment marks a significant step in the President’s strategy to revamp the country’s energy sector.

Mr. Keili brings over 40 years of professional experience to the role, with a robust background in engineering, particularly within the mining industry. He has worked in Sierra Leone, the United States, and Ukraine, holding various positions in private industry, parastatals, and consultancy work. His extensive experience in Sierra Leone’s mining sector includes involvement in operational and policy aspects, especially within the diamond sub-sector, contributing to the country’s economic and social development.

Keili has played a significant role in formulating and reviewing government policies and has substantial experience in Sierra Leone’s infrastructure sectors. He is acutely aware of sustainable development issues and has worked closely with donors and NGOs. His involvement with numerous bodies focused on business, development, and the environment underscores his deep understanding of Sierra Leone’s national economic and social priorities.

In the area of Environmental Services, Keili has served as Project Director and Project Manager for major Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) projects conducted by CEMMATS. He was also the Chief Metallurgist at Sierra Rutile Ltd before operations ceased in 1995 due to the interregnum.

With his appointment as chairman of EDSA, Keili is expected to leverage his extensive expertise to drive improvements in Sierra Leone’s electricity distribution and supply, contributing to the nation’s broader energy strategy.
