President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has been invited to deliver a keynote address at the upcoming Oxford Africa Conference 2025, scheduled for May 24 and 25 at the Blavatnik School of Government.

At the conference, the theme of his address will be “Changing Narratives: Vision, Action, and Transformation of Africa.”

The Oxford Africa Conference, organized by the Oxford University Africa Society (AfriSoc), aims to gather scholars, professionals, and thought leaders to discuss Africa’s development and showcase its diverse successes.

Notably, the conference would facilitate meaningful dialogues on critical issues facing the continent and explore innovative solutions for Africa’s future.

The conference is also expected to attract students, global leaders, and distinguished speakers who will contribute to discussions on Africa’s resilience and contributions to global development.

Dr. Bio’s leadership has been marked by the implementation of his New Direction Agenda, which aims to inspire a citizen-led transformation in Sierra Leone and set the nation on a path toward achieving middle-income status.

His administration has introduced several radical reforms, including the abolishment of the death penalty and the enactment of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act.

His legislation has reportedly promoted gender equality by reserving 30% of jobs in both the private and public sectors for women, as well as ensuring their representation in parliament and cabinet positions, and extending maternity leave for women from 12 to 14 weeks.

Report confirmed that Dr. Bio’s leadership has garnered international recognition, positioning him as a visionary figure in the ongoing transformation of Sierra Leone and the broader African continent.
