President Julius Maada Bio, held a meeting with the leadership of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress (SLLC) on Thursday 26th October, 2023, addressing crucial labor-related matters.

During the meeting, Max K. Conteh, the Secretary General of the SLLC, emphasized the need for improved welfare for workers and requested a salary review to align with the economic challenges faced by the labor force.

President Bio, in response, assured the SLLC members of his government’s continued commitment to prioritize workers’ welfare. Notably, since his leadership began in 2018, workers have experienced significant improvements, including a 30% salary increase for teachers, a 50% raise for the Military, Police, Fire Force, and Correctional Services, along with similar increments for employees at ONS and CISU, and 25% increases for workers at Audit Service, Anti-Corruption Commission, and Statistics Sierra Leone. University lecturers and workers have also benefited from a 75% salary increase.

President Bio acknowledged the concerns of the SLLC leadership and pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address their requests. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing decent work, social justice, and inclusive growth throughout Sierra Leone.
