Sierra Leone’s President, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the highly anticipated World Without Hunger Conference, which will be held from November 5-7, 2024.
President Bio, invited as a special guest and speaker, joins global leaders, policymakers, and experts in addressing one of the world’s most urgent challenges: hunger and food insecurity.
The conference, co-hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union Commission, and the Government of Ethiopia, is bringing together heads of state, government ministers, UN representatives, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations.
This distinguished gathering will focus on advancing innovative solutions to tackle hunger and build resilient food systems globally.
With technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the discussions will address key topics including boosting domestic food production, enhancing irrigation systems, strengthening rural infrastructure, promoting livestock development, and supporting value-added agricultural practices. Additionally, strategies to create social safety nets and improve disaster response mechanisms will be explored.
As a speaker at the High-level Political Forum, President Bio is expected to share Sierra Leone’s progress in improving food security.
He will highlight the country’s initiatives, such as the Feed Salone program, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity, empower rural communities, and ensure that sustainable farming practices become the backbone of Sierra Leone’s food systems.
The President’s participation in the conference reflects Sierra Leone’s commitment to the global fight against hunger and its determination to collaborate with international partners to address food insecurity.
His engagement will also provide an opportunity to strengthen ties with other African nations and global stakeholders, focusing on shared goals to improve food security and nutrition across the continent and beyond.
