The International Criminal Police Organization’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Freetown has successfully apprehended two Guinean nationals wanted in connection with an alleged child theft case.

The suspects, who reportedly fled to Sierra Leone following the incident in Guinea earlier in March, were arrested and subsequently handed over to Guinean authorities yesterday, Thursday, April 3rd, 2025.

The successful operation was a result of close cooperation between the Sierra Leone Police and the Interpol team from Guinea. The transfer of the suspects was facilitated by Interpol NCB Freetown at the Gbalamuya Work Station, ensuring a seamless cross-border procedure.

Detective Inspector Stella Sarah Kargbo spearheaded the handover process, supported by Detective Police Constable Mohamed Mansaray and Police Constable Joseph. The Sierra Leonean officers diligently ensured that all necessary documentation was completed to facilitate a smooth and lawful transfer.

Representatives from Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Conakry were present at the Gbalamuya Work Station to formally receive the apprehended individuals. Additionally, a representative from the Kambia Division Local Unit Command was on-site to secure copies of the relevant documentation for further local processing.

In a welcome development, the child who was allegedly stolen has been safely reunited with their parents in Guinea. Following their rescue, the child underwent a thorough medical evaluation, which thankfully confirmed their well-being.

Officials from Interpol NCB Conakry lauded the exemplary cooperation demonstrated by their counterparts in Sierra Leone. They emphasized the vital role of robust cross-border collaboration in effectively combating transnational crime and safeguarding vulnerable populations, particularly children.

The successful operation concluded with a group photograph of the involved officers, symbolizing the strong and effective partnership between the law enforcement agencies of the two neighboring nations.
