President Julius Maada Bio has travelled to Brussels to meet with European Council President, Charles Michel.
The meeting is geared towards strengthening bilateral ties between the Union and Sierra Leone.
“We had engaging discussions on strengthening our partnership and cooperation between Sierra Leone and the European Union,” Bio said.
The president also met with the EU Commission’s Vice President Josep Borell and discussed about promoting peace, stability and good governance.
While these meetings were happening abroad, the EU’s mission in Sierra Leone has reaffirmed their commitment to support the West African nation as they go to the polls this June. The mission has been one of the key sponsors of democracy in Sierra Leone.
Meanwhile, some Sierra Leoneans were present in Brussels to protest against the Bio administration. Some held placards that pleaded with fellow citizens to vote against the president in the next election while others accuse him of corruption and political violence.
Sierra Leone will held their fifth elections since their civil war on the 24th June this year.
