The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Bio, has concluded what she described as a successful official visit to Gabon, where she joined fellow African First Ladies for the launch of a campaign focused on strengthening the resilience of women and girls.

The Sierra Leone First Lady is currently the President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

In a statement issued on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the First Lady said she participated in the launch of the national Building Resilience campaign in Libreville at the invitation of Gabon’s First Lady, Zita Oligui Nguema. The event was marked by a formal dinner held at the Presidential Palace and attended by several distinguished First Ladies from across the continent.

I have concluded a successful visit to Gabon, where I joined my dear sister, Zita Oligui Nguema, and other distinguished First Ladies for the launch of the national Building Resilience campaign, marked by a formal dinner at the Presidential Palace in Libreville,” she noted.

She added that the gathering created an opportunity for leaders to deepen collaboration and exchange ideas on advancing the welfare of women and girls. According to her, the discussions emphasized shared priorities around empowerment, resilience, and sustainable development.

This important gathering provided a valuable platform to strengthen solidarity, exchange ideas, and reaffirm our shared commitment to advancing the well-being and resilience of women and girls across our continent,” she said.

The First Lady further indicated that the visit had strengthened partnerships that would support ongoing and future initiatives in Sierra Leone and beyond. She stressed that the outcomes of the meeting would contribute to broader efforts aimed at inclusive growth and development across Africa.

As I depart for Sierra Leone, I carry with me renewed purpose and strengthened partnerships that will continue to guide our collective efforts toward sustainable development and inclusive progress,” she added.

The First Lady’s participation in the Gabon event aligns with her ongoing advocacy for gender equality, education, and social protection initiatives in Sierra Leone, particularly through her flagship programs supporting women and girls.
