President Bio Greets Former President Koroma at 70

President Julius Maada Bio rejoiced with former President Ernest Bai Koroma as he marked his 70th birthday on Monday, October 2, 2023.

In a heartfelt message, President Bio conveyed, “On behalf of my family, the Government, and the good people of Sierra Leone, I extend warm wishes.”

He further acknowledged the occasion by adding, “I join family, friends, and well-wishers in commemorating this special milestone for the Former President, His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma.”

This kind of gesture is appreciated as a means to fosters Unity and national cohesion. I am sure Maada Bio is beginning to understand himself, his real duties and responsibilities as a humble political leader. Initially, Maada Bio was supported by his boothleaker to molest, intimidate, threaten and even kill Sierra Leoneans who opposed him which is not a form of democratic politics. I bet you, if Maada Bio had seek genuine advice from the former President Ernest Bai Koroma, Maada Bio would have been one of the best leaders in Sierra Leone and even in Africa. Ernest Bai Koroma has a lot of knowledge, experience, respect and dignity. So anybody who takes after him should be ready to learn from him. Indeed, Ernest Bai Koroma is not superhuman, he made several mistakes but he was humble and was ready to learn from his former President.The late president Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabba. ( May his Soul Rest in Perfect Peace) taught and advised Ernest Bai Koroma on several things. That was why Ernest Bai Koroma succeeded in his administration. On the other hand, Maada Bio refused to acknowledge and accept Ernest Bai Koroma as an experienced, popular and loved person. Instead of trying to learn from his predecessor, Maada Bio decided to humilate, suppress and intimidate Ernest Bai Koroma. Maada Bio labeled Ernest Bai Koroma as ememy. "Experience is the best teacher" Today, Maada Bio is in a serious problem with the people of Sierra Leone and even the International world. Maada Bio' s end is gloomy and dark.

Amongst the moral lessons i learnt in the 2018 elections were. " In life , it is not about how people think about you , it is how Allah destined you to be". Also, " In life be careful how you treat other people, you might need them tomorrow". The former lesson resonates with the success of President Bio, while the latter resonates with Sam Sumana how he was treated and later they wanted to consolidate his support but it was too late. If this is coming at this material point when the country is in a political quagmire, some school of thoughts might say it is not a genuine line of action to share natal day greetings to the former president. Others would say never never late than ever if and only if a rethink is given to do so at this moment. In my personal opinion, i would have loved to see this coming from the incumbent prior to this time, but so be it as it is and if this is the time one thinks. As Sierra Leoneans, let us commit ourselves to ensure Sierra Leone is galvanized in peace, unity freedom and justice by standing tall with president Bio in his message to the former president.
