Honouring the fallen heroes of the failed attempted coup on the 26th November 2023, President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Maada organised an interfaith Prayers to pay their last respect to them.
The attempted coup lead to the deaths of several military and police officers.
The burial ceremony was held at the Cockerill Military Barracks in Freetown and was attended by high-ranking government officials as well as representatives from the Military, the Sierra Leone Police Force and other government agencies.
The ceremony began with interfaith prayers for the fallen soldiers, followed by a series of speeches and tributes from the President and other dignitaries. The President praised the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty and also called for unity and peace among all Sierra Leoneans.
In his speech President Bio made a strong commitment to bring justice to the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable, regardless of their status or ranking in society.
The commitment made by the president to justice in the aftermath of the failed coup attempt reflects a dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for those involved in the destabilizing actions against the state as many Sierra Leoneans.
He further emphasized that justice will be pursued irrespective of status or ranking in society as well as maintaining that all individuals involved in such acts will be held accountable under the law.
