A disturbing incident unfolded in the New London area of Tankoro Town, Kono District, where an 11-year-old girl, identified as Musu Bunduka, has been accused of setting a house on fire and is currently under investigation.
According to A-Z Newspaper, the property owner, Sahr Momeh, stated that the fire erupted while he, his wife, and son were in an adjacent room. He recalled hearing the sound of liquid being poured, suspected to be petrol, on the rooftop before flames suddenly engulfed the building. According to Momeh, he saw Musu attempting to flee the scene and managed to apprehend her.
Momeh explained that Musu had developed a close friendship with his daughters, Mariama and Finda, and frequently stayed overnight at their home. However, he had recently stopped allowing her to sleep over due to legal concerns about housing a minor without parental permission. He also mentioned that Musu had once been caught with an expensive mobile phone, raising suspicions from her guardian, Madam Mabel Lebbie, who believed the child could not have legitimately obtained such a device.
Following the blaze, Momeh filed a report at the Kembadu Police Post and submitted a damage estimate exceeding Le 20,000. However, he expressed frustration upon discovering that Musu had been released from police custody without his knowledge or any formal update.
“This situation is very upsetting,” Momeh stated. “I expected better handling of such a serious matter.”
Madam Lebbie, who had previously raised concerns about Musu’s behavior, also criticized the authorities, calling their response “unprofessional and deeply troubling.”
Efforts to contact the lead investigating officer have so far been unsuccessful. The case remains under investigation
