As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has reiterated his steadfast commitment to inspiring inclusion and promoting women’s equality within the country.
In his statement issued on this significant day, President Bio vowed to provide unwavering support to empower women and eliminate barriers they face in Sierra Leone. He emphasized the importance of fostering an environment where women have equal opportunities and rights.
President Bio highlighted the groundbreaking Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Bill of 2023, which prioritizes gender mainstreaming and equity in national development agendas. He underscored that government policies and programs are strategically crafted to dismantle obstacles hindering women and girls in Sierra Leone.
Acknowledging the crucial role women play in nation-building, President Bio stressed that investing in women’s empowerment is not only morally imperative but also essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive development in Sierra Leone.
He concluded by expressing gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions made by Sierra Leonean women to foster peace and prosperity in the nation, as well as extending warm wishes for International Women’s Day.
