The wife of the late Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Joseph Pizarro Christian Charley (popular know as AIG Chris Charley) has sued the Minister of Health and Sanitation, the Medical Superintendent (Officer in Charge) of 34 Military Hospital, and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone at the High Court of Sierra Leone, according to court papers shown to Premier News.

On the Writ of Summons issued by Marrah and Associates on the 7th day of February,2022 were indorsed claims against the government for medical negligence which resulted in the death of the late AIG Chris Charley at the 34 Military Hospital.

It could be recalled that the widow had notified the government of Sierra Leone through the former Attorney General Dr. Priscilla Schwartz of her intention to sue the government as far back as November 2020. We are reliably informed that no steps had been taken by the government to engage the family of the late AIF in a bid to resolve their complaint.

Premier News Newspaper reports that, the Plaintiff, Mrs. Florence Charley, the legally wedded wife of the late AIG Chris Charley, claims that lack of proper medical care because of lack of necessary medical equipment/facilities amounted to gross medical negligence which precipitated the demise of the late AIG on the 11th day of June 2020, less than 48 hours after he had been admitted for treatment at the 34 Military Hospital.

Information reaching this medium indicates that court papers have been served on all the defendants, but the state is yet to enter an appearance in the matter. It may be recalled that the late AIG Chris Charley was a senior officer in the Sierra Leone Police who retired at the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
